Is it ridiculous that Spock and Star Trek is my inspiration for pursuing a career in astrophysics?

Not at all. While mostly fiction, space opera shows like Star Trek can certainly strike one's curiosity about what is out there in the Universe and how it all works. So if you're genuinely intereted by what makes the Universe run and you have what it takes to undertake physics studies, go ahead. You can't become a good scientist unless you're pionate about your reserch anyway.
